Western Ohio & Toledo

To Photos

Toledo is a very active railroad city, served by NS, CSX, CN, WLE, and Ann Arbor. This page also includes photos at Oak Harbor, east of Toledo, and various locations in western Ohio -- except Fostoria which has its own page -- such as Deshler, Defiance, Lima, Oak Harbor, and Bryan, as well as northeast Indiana and southeast Michigan.

The major yards are CSX - Walbridge and Stanley (both on the southeast side of the city); NS - Airline (just west of downtown) and Homewood (northeast of downtown east of the Maumee River) which also is used by WLE; and CN and WLE - Lang (north of the city).

We continue to get reports that Toledo area railfans are attracting the attention of railroad Special Agents. The principal problem locations in and around Toledo seem to be Vickers, Walbridge, and now Stanley, all of which are CSX; and at Lang which is CN. Please be especially alert because railfans are being kicked out of, and sometimes being written up at, these areas. If a railroad Special Agent asks you to leave, even if you are on public property, please do so without making a big issue about it. Let's show the police a good image of our hobby; that may help avoid more stringent regulations.

CN ALERT: Please also be very careful when you are railfanning around CN property in the Toledo area, and in Michigan. CN, which always has been difficult to railfan, has recently issued a public notice that it is strictly enforcing its "No Trespassing" policy, and that it has zero tolerance for unauthorized persons anywhere on CN property. We don't want to see you encounter CN's Special Agents who definitely will ruin your railfanning experience (as happened to two fans who we know).
